Yes, teeth whitening is safe and effective when performed by a registered dental professional.
The cosmetic dentist at our Middlesex practice will first carefully examine your oral health to establish your suitability for professional whitening, and to ensure there are no underlying issues.
At your first appointment, the dentist will take impressions of your teeth so that your bespoke trays can be created. When they are ready, a second appointment is arranged to collect them and for the dentist to give you instructions on how to use the system.
When ready at home, you will then place a small “teardrop” amount of the prescribed whitening gel into each tooth compartment of the tray, and wear it for a specified period of time.
It is common to experience some short-term sensitivity from teeth whitening.
However, the Philips Zoom! take-home gels contain a unique desensitiser known as Amorphous Calcium Phosphate (ACP), as well as potassium nitrate and fluoride. These ingredients work to reduce tooth sensitivity, strengthen enamel, and provide a protective layer.
No. Philips Zoom! at-home teeth whitening is only effective on natural teeth, so it will not alter the colour of existing crowns, veneers, fillings, or dental bridges.
To ensure a perfect colour match, any restorative work should be done after the teeth whitening treatment.
The longevity of your results from professional whitening will depend on your lifestyle.
To maintain your bright smile for longer, you should practise good daily oral hygiene, including brushing twice a day and flossing. You should also avoid or limit your consumption of foods and drinks that stain, such as coffee, tea, and red wine.
