Regularly carrying out good oral hygiene practices is extremely important for maintaining not only your dental health, but also your overall physical wellness.
Careful, everyday brushing and flossing at home is essential. However, a professional dental hygienist can further support your oral health by removing the hard build-up of plaque from your teeth. An appointment with our dental hygienist can give you the benefit of deep and thorough teeth cleaning. During your hygiene appointment, they will give your teeth a thorough cleaning to help prevent issues from developing.
Our scale and polish service involves the use of specialised equipment to remove plaque and hardened tartar from the teeth.
Then, our dental hygienist uses a rotating brush or rubber cup with abrasive paste to polish the teeth. This removes surface stains and leaves a smooth finish.
For patients with moderate to severe gum disease, we make available a full mouth deep cleaning service, which more thoroughly cleans the tooth and roots below the gumline.
A basic scale and polish treatment is usually pain-free, although the patient may experience some pressure.
If you have sensitive teeth or gum disease, you might experience some discomfort during a deeper clean. In these cases, our dental hygienist can use a topical anaesthetic gel or a local anaesthetic injection to ensure your comfort as the procedure takes place.
One visit every six months is typically recommended for most people with good oral health.
If you have a history of heavy tartar buildup or gum disease, your dentist may recommend appointments at more frequent intervals, such as every three or four months.
Yes. Persistent bad breath is often caused by an accumulation of bacteria, plaque, and tartar.
These deposits can be removed with a professional scale and polish treatment, which significantly reduces or eliminates the source of the odour.
A dental hygienist is a preventive care specialist, focusing on teeth cleaning, polishing, and the treatment of gum disease. Meanwhile, a dentist is a primary care provider, responsible for diagnosing and treating a broader range of oral health issues. The two frequently work together to ensure optimal care for your teeth and gums.
