Effective treatments for healthier gums
Healthy gums are vital because of the strong foundation they provide for your teeth. Your gums also help protect your teeth from bacteria, while supporting your overall health.
If you begin to experience gum disease, prompt intervention is crucial to prevent the condition from developing. Left untreated, gum disease can lead to irreversible deterioration and tooth loss.
Our practice offers the two main categories of gum disease treatment: preventive treatment, which focuses on controlling plaque and ensuring disease doesn’t develop; and periodontal treatment, which aims to manage or treat established gum disease.
Early-stage gum disease “gingivitis” is often completely reversible with professional treatment like deep cleaning, combined with proper home care.
More advanced gum disease “periodontitis” is not fully curable. However, it can be effectively managed and controlled to prevent further damage and tooth loss.
During a procedure such as deep cleaning, a local anaesthetic is used to prevent and minimise pain.
Some patients may experience mild soreness or sensitivity for a few days after treatment, which can be managed with over-the-counter painkillers.
The cost varies significantly depending on the severity of the disease and the type of treatment required. Early intervention is key, as minor, undeveloped cases are less expensive than complex surgical procedures.
Yes, which is why follow-up appointments are typically needed for monitoring every three to six months after treatment.
By attending regular dental check-ups and practising good, thorough oral hygiene, you can minimise the risk of gum disease returning after treatment.
